Local support for overseas troops
The Virginia State Board of Elections (SBE) led a care package drive
during the holidays and throughout the spring for troops serving
overseas. Caring supporters from many agencies joined in donating
much appreciated items for the dedicated and deserving men and women
of our armed forces. SBE received numerous thank you letters from
the grateful recipients. As fall approaches, SBE plans to send more
packages and welcomes anyone who would like to participate. This
effort is conducted without using government funds.
In order to make it more convenient for Historic Triangle area
residents to participate, the James City County and City of
Williamsburg General Registrars are accepting donations at: James

Improving voter accessibility
The James City County Voter Registration and
Elections Office has a new tool to improve accessibility for James
City County voters when they come to the office to cast an “In
Person” absentee ballot! The BigBell™ Ballot Call is a communication
tool that allows voters with disabilities to request assistance –
from the comfort of their vehicle.
The wireless alert system is available at the dual handicap access
parking spaces near the office entrance at the end of Building B in
the County Office Complex located at 101 Mounts Bay Road (off Rt.
199 at the entrance to Kingsmill).
During absentee voting hours, drive up to the ballot call station,
press the large button, and a staff member will come out to the
parking area to assist with absentee voting.
Voters still have the option of coming in to the office via an
automated door if they prefer.
The new system was provided by the Virginia State Board of Elections
using funds from a grant for the purpose of improving accessibility
throughout the commonwealth
