Fishing Report
November 3-9
Doug Trainum, New Kent County, two largemouth bass up to 4
pounds, 8 ounces; crank bait/ spinner bait.
Paul Kelly, Hampton, 30 crappie up to 11 1/2 inches; minnows
and jigs.
Edd Soler, Hampton, 30 crappie up to 12 inches; minnows and
jigs.
Jim Grigogones, James City County, one largemouth bass, 4
pounds, 8 ounces; bait unknown.
Crappie took top catch of the week with two anglers from Hampton
catching a number of specs up to 12 inches. Minnows and small jigs
fished on structure in 5-10 feet of water was the ticket for
catching these great eating fish.
Largemouth bass are being caught off points in 5-15 feet of water.
Crack baits, spinner baits and plastics worms have been the top
producing baits.
Chain pickerel are hitting on plastic worms, spinner baits and crank
baits fish off points and the mouth of coves in 5-10 feet of water.
Small stripers are biting on swim baits and spinner baits by anglers
beating the banks fishing for other species of fish.
The Reservoir in stained with an estimated surface temperature of 55
degrees. The water level is 68 1/4 inches below full pool.
The park starts its winter schedule from the first of December until
the end of February. Opening Saturdays and Sundays only from 7 a.m.
until 5 p.m.
November 10-16
Jim Pendo, Croaker, one largemouth bass, 5 pounds, 1 ounce;
spinner bait.
Turn out of anglers over the past week has been light.
Spinner baits, crank baits have been the top lures for largemouth
bass. Anglers working in 5-15 feet of water along drop-offs have
been catching fish up to over five pounds.
Chain pickerel are reported to be biting on minnows, crank baits,
spinner baits and plastic worms fished in 3-15 feet of water.
Small minnows and jigs have been used to catch yellow perch off
structure in 5-15 feet of water.
Have not heard of anyone catching any striper over the minimum 20
inches.
We start our winter schedule on December 1 thru the end of February
open weekends only from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The water is stained with an estimated surface water temperature of
50 degrees. The reservoir water level is 60 1/2 inches below full
pool, up 7 3/4 inches over the past week.
