Obituaries



Pearl Benson Miller
NORGE – Pearle Benson Miller, 86, died on Monday, July 14. Born in Lightfoot, Virginia, the daughter of Alfred and Nellie Benson, she grew up and remained in the area her entire life, surrounded by her extended family and friends. Her husband of 63 years, Glenn J. Miller, recently died this past February. For many years she was a friendly and familiar face at the Lightfoot Post Office, where she retired in 1988 as Postmaster after completing 33 years with the US Postal Service. She was a lifelong member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Norge, where she began playing the organ as a teenager and served as organist for over 50 years. As a member and former treasurer of the Norge Women’s Club, she was active with their quilting projects and enjoyed other handicraft activities including sewing and knitting. An avid reader, she also enjoyed books of all genres. She is survived by brothers, Melvin Benson of Severna Park, MD and David Benson of New Bern, NC; a sister, Doris Wildenberger of Norge; her sons, Gary Miller and Neal Miller, and her daughter Sharon Maloney, all of Williamsburg; her daughter, Jeanne Bachman of Tucson, AZ; her daughter, Brenda Bares of Plymouth, MA, her son, Robin Miller of Lanexa, VA, and her daughter, Amye Shannon of Salem, VA; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. A reception followed at the fellowship hall
