School Supplies for Fines
August 3-16
The York County Public Library will conduct a School Supplies for
Fines campaign to help our school-age patrons get ready for the
upcoming school year. From August 3 to 16, patrons with overdue
materials may bring school supplies for children in kindergarten
through fifth grade to the Tabb or Yorktown Library to pay their
overdue fines. One item will pay one fine, regardless of the amount
of the fine. Patrons may bring as many school supplies as they have
overdue books, videos, cassettes, or CDs. Patrons should bring their
school supplies to the Circulation desk, along with their library
card, to receive credit on their account. The School Supplies for
Fines program does not apply to charges for lost or damaged items.
“The Library sponsors the School Supplies for Fines program to
encourage the return of overdue items while helping serve those in
need,” said Kevin Smith, Manager of Library Services. “We have more
than 1,600 items that are overdue. It’s a win-win situation for the
library, our patrons, and York County families who need assistance.”
A list of suggested school supplies will be available at both
libraries and on our web site,
www.yorkcounty.gov/library . Donated items will benefit Yorktown
Elementary School and Bethel Manor Elementary School. The most
needed items are black and white marble composition books, low odor
dry erase markers, and glue sticks.
For more information call the Tabb Library at 890-5120 or the
Yorktown Library at 890-5207. The Tabb Library is located at the
intersection of Hampton Highway (Route 134) and Long Green
Boulevard. The Yorktown Library is located at the intersection of
George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17) and Battle Road.
